Cat Personalities

Some people think that cats do not have unique personalities. That they are all just catlike in their desire to laze around the house and glare at you. That is a lie. That is a lie so extreme that I will laugh in your face if you tell me cats do not have a personality unique to that cat.

The idea of unique cat personalities has been brought up many times in our household due to the fact that we have three cats that each have a different kind of relationship with each other. They also have a different response to Halloween costumes which is what inspired this post.

Since Halloween is in a few days, some of the members of our household took it upon themselves to buy costumes for their cats. I am not one of them and you will find out why at the end of this post.

Alyssa started the trend by buying her cat, Skeeter, a devil hat. Skeeter's response to the hat was a vicious, "NO!" and an immediate removal of the offensive article of pet clothing. He is repulsed by the mere idea of pet clothing (evidenced in his refusal to wear a collar).

Holly followed with a full body cow costume for her kitten Mowgli. As soon as it was velcroed up, Mowgli kind of tilted to the side and fell over. He refused to move and gave a general aura of, "Why is this my life? Do you hate my mother? Why would you do thisssss?" Then he kind of rolled around a bit but was generally unsuccessful at removing the costume. Alyssa later put this costume on Skeeter who went into a alligator death roll and had the costume off in less than a minute.

Then there's me and Charlie. I have decided that Charlie's costume is Church from Pet Sematary because that means I don't have to do anything. He is a big cat and, while not particularly vicious, has this atmosphere about him that reeks of the potential to do some serious harm. The best example I can give of this atmosphere is the time Skeeter was sitting in the cat condo. Charlie walked over and stared Skeeter down—did not do anything, just stared—scaring Skeeter into removing himself from the cat condo (which Charlie took).
